Pressure Washer Buying Guide

So you’re looking at buying a pressure washer and you completely baffled by all the jargon. Then we have compiled a list of items that you might want to pay attention to when looking for a pressure washer. If you have a unlimited budget then this makes things a lot easier but if you’re running on a tight budget of say £120 then you might need to spend more time comparing pressure washers.

Although cheaper pressure washers might seem like a good buy you might find that you soon regret buying a cheaper model as it might take longer to do the job in hand.

When looking at pressures you need to find the working pressure and not the maximum pressure which is usually a protection for the pump within the pressure washer. You can commonly find pressure washers with 120 Bar but there actually more likely to have a working pressure of 90 Bar.
The higher the pressure the quicker it will clean the item you’re trying to clean.

Flow rate is usually quoted in litres per hour this is how many litres of water is put through the pressure washer per hour so you can imagine that a pressure washer that has 340 litres per hour will take longer to clean something that has 420 litres per hour.

Motors are the major part of the pressure washer and unfortunately the first part that will break. The cost of your pressure washer will usually determine how good your motor is. If you buy a cheaper pressure washer for around £50 it might have a cheaper motor which maybe a universal brush motor which are intended for vacuum cleaners, more expensive pressure washers will have induction motors which could have 3 times the run time of a universal brush motor.

Universal brush motor usual working hours around 10 hours maybe slightly more.

Induction motors can last for around 60/70 hours if not longer if you have a really good pressure washer.

Another important factor is the hose length the longer the better you need to be looking to get a 6 meter hose to get right round a modern day hatchback without having to move your pressure washer. A hose extension can easily cost £50 so it can be an expensive mistake.
